My Breeding Process
Here at Stud we choose only the best rabbits for breeding. As well as a rabbits type and colour, the nature of the rabbit is at the top of our 'checklist' when buying a new breeding rabbit. Therefore, these
friendly traits will be passed on to the offspring.
We breed purely to improve our lines, but sometimes we have baby bunnies that are looking for loving new homes. These will appear on our FOR SALE page once we have decided which bunnies we are running on.
Our rabbits are purely a hobby that we love. It is not a money-making scheme as any money made goes straight back into the stud We only breed my rabbits when we know we can find good homes for any babies that aren't being run on. If it occurs that we can't sell a baby, we will keep it ourselves.
WE DO NOT SELL ANY SURPLUS BUNNIES AT SALES OR
SEND THEM TO ADOPTION CENTRES.
We ask £25 upwards for my bunnies dependant on their colour pattern and age.We try to ensure good homes for the babies, but if the new owner has a change of circumstance we will try to help rehome the rabbit or take it back ourselves dependant on our current hutch space
.
Our stock is from top quality sources to ensure the best possible offspring. All our does get at least 3months rest in between litters and the whole winter off.
The Way I Breed My Rabbits - From Mating to Maturing.
The doe is put to the buck for three days. She still continues to be run in my 12ftx5ft runs each day until close to the birth date.
A week or so before she gives birth she will be placed in a 5ft+ hutch to give birth and raise her litter.
We generally give the doe a day or two to settle before we start handling the babies.
1st-3rd weeks
We sex the babies and decipher the colour patterns.
6weeks
We gradually start to wean the babies. Doing it gradually reduces the level of stress to both mother and babies. The babies are placed in a seperate hutch from late morning to early evening with lots of toys and things to interact with. This helps the babies develop their own skills and gives mum a break! They are then placed back with mum in the evening. They also start to go on the grass for an hour everyday.
7weeks
The babies are completely weaned from mum. They all go into a large hutch together with lots of fun things to do. We also keep an eye that they are all eating and drinking.
8weeks
The babies are ready for their new homes. Any babies that aren't staying at Stud and that haven't yet found homes will be seperated into Bucks and Does until they do. The doe will then be given at least 3months peace and quite to rest!
